Number of tourist arrivals to DIY Exceeds Target

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA - The visit of foreign tourists (tourists) to the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) in 2015 has exceeded the target. DIY is targeting 280 thousand foreign tourists in November 2015 the position has been reached.

'' I expect the end of 2015 tourist arrivals to DIY reached 290 thousand people, '' said the Head of Tourism DIY Aris Riyanta reporters in Parliament Office DIY, Wednesday (30/12).

The target of domestic tourists in 2015 as many as 3.4 million people. Tourists positions in this country until November 2015 had 3.3 million people. Aris optimistic domestic wsatawan number of visits until the end of 2015 reached USD 3.5 million.

Assuming he has the increase in the number of local tourists in December 2015 could reach 400-500 thousand, because there are holidays Prophet Muhammad's Birthday, Christmas, and New Year.

According to Aris, the number of tourists is increasing compared to 2014. The increase for tourists around 5-10 per cent, while domestic tourists around 10-15 percent.

The number of tourists which is calculated by the Department of Tourism DIY is just staying in the hotel and non star recorded in IHRA (Association of Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants) numbering about 200 pieces.

"Though there are many hotels in the province that has not been recorded in the IHRA and tourists who stay in the hotel but in the home of friends or relatives. So if I counted all of the number of tourists who come to DIY more than the amount we had anticipated, '' he said.

Furthermore, he said that foreign tourists coming to DIY this year is still the largest of the Netherlands which is about 30 thousand, then Japan around 27 thousand and Malaysia. He admitted foreign tourists coming to DIY mostly from countries once colonized Indonesia.

"This is because there is an emotional attachment. They want to see the colony of his father or grandfather, '' he said.

The majority of domestic tourists who come to Yogyakarta from Jakarta, followed by West Java, East Java, Central Java and Banten.
